More Australians making the switch

The number of Australian households that have converted to digital TV has grown by 21 percentage points over the past year.

The Digital Tracker showed positive movements across all six indicators – awareness, understanding, attitude, intention, conversion and satisfaction – in the first quarter of 2010.

Budget funding for digital TV by satellite

The Rudd Government will invest $375.4 million over twelve years in a new satellite service to ensure all Australians have access to digital TV.

The funding also includes a satellite subsidy for households who will need access to the satellite service if their community-operated ‘self-help analog transmitters are not being upgraded to digital.

Digital TV by satellite

Australians who can’t receive digital TV services from transmission towers in their area will be able to access the full range of digital TV programming from the new digital TV satellite service.

The satellite service will also provide high definition channels and a dedicated local news channel in addition to state-based ABC and SBS news services on their respective channels.

Ouyen switches on to digital TV

The Ouyen community in the Mallee region of Victoria welcomed its new digital TV service in the first week of May.

The new transmitter was established by broadcasters to serve the town, about 100 kilometres south of Mildura. The new transmitter provides the full range of digital TV programs to the Ouyen area and means that residents now have a local digital TV signal. Read more.

Household Assistance Scheme converts 2000th household

The Household Assistance Scheme (HAS) continues to provide support to Australians needing help to switchover to digital TV.

The Scheme, to assist Australians, such as the elderly and people with disabilities and their carers, has announced the 2000th successful conversion in the Mildura/Sunraysia region.

Retail stores continue to provide support to Australians switching to digital TV.

Digital Advisors, approved by the Australian Government, are now represented in the stores of many retailers throughout the country.

Digital Switchover Liaison Officers connect with local communities

The Digital Switchover Liaison Officer’s (DSLO) role is to support local communities with the switch to digital TV.

The DSLO is the local connection for local community groups and plays an important role in educating residents and providing information about the digital switchover.
