The Australian Government is committed to a digital future for all Australians and that’s why we are switching to digital TV.

Digital television offers improved picture and sound quality and greater program choice with access to new digital channels such as Network Ten’s ONE, Network Nine’s GO!, 7TWO, ABC2, ABC 3 and SBS Two. It will also make spectrum available for use in delivering new and improved communications services, such as high speed broadband. Read more

Update on the progress of the Digital Switchover from the Executive Director

Australians are making steady progress in getting ready for digital TV. Sixty one per cent of households have already converted their main television set. 78% of households know how to convert to digital TV. Of those households that are not digitally ready, 84 per cent intend to convert to digital TV. Read more

Some households will need to upgrade their existing antenna to receive reliable digital TV signals when the digital TV switchover takes place.

The Antenna Installers Endorsement Scheme is part of the Australian Government’s quality assurance measures. It gives consumers access to skilled and endorsed installers, who can help them become ready for digital TV.

Retail staff train up to help people make the switch

The Government is working closely with television retailers to provide information and advice about switching to digital television. Many stores now have approved Digital Advisors to help consumers and businesses get ready for digital TV.

The Scheme is part of the Australian Government’s quality assurance measures to give consumers and businesses confidence to choose how they switchover to digital TV.
