Throughout the Spencer Gulf, the Riverland, Mount Gambier and the South-East region, and in Broken Hill, households are getting ready for digital TV.

Mildura/Sunraysia made the switch! October 2010

Mildura/Sunraysia region successfully switched to digital-only free-to-air TV at 9am on 30 June 2010.

The Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy, was in Mildura for the historic moment when the analog TV signals which had served the region for forty five years were switched off for good.

Analog TV signals will be switched off across regional Victoria on 5 May 2011.

This will affect around 455,000 households across Victoria, outside the Melbourne metropolitan area, and with the exception of Mildura/Sunraysia which switched on 30 June 2010.

10,000th HAS household installation completed October 2010

Mrs Lorraine McIntyre of Broken Hill was the 10,000th householder helped to switch to digital TV through the Government’s Household Assistance Scheme.

Announcing the milestone, the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Conroy, said Mrs McIntyre will be able to access digital channels provided by the ABC, SBS and Southern Cross in the Broken Hill area, including the new Channel 9 service from Southern Cross, which will be broadcast in digital only in Broken Hill from the end of October.

While most Australians will be able to receive their digital TV from broadcaster-operated transmitters, some will rely on the Viewer Access Satellite Television (VAST) for their digital TV signals.

This includes households served by community-operated analog ‘self help’ transmitters that are not being upgraded to digital.

Taskforce representatives have attended events as Wharfest in Port Augusta; the Riverland Field Days; and the Whyalla, Broken Hill, Yallunda Flat, Mt. Gambier and Clare shows.
