Mental Health Week
December 2011
The Digital Switchover Taskforce took part in the Healthy Lifestyle Healthy Living celebrations during Mental Health Week in October. The celebrations, hosted by Townsville Intercultural Centre, were held at the Strand and attracted about 500 visitors from Townsville and surrounding areas.
Melissa Wick, the North Queensland Digital Switchover Liaison Officer, ran an information session targeted to multicultural communities in the area. Melissa also provided general information about switching to digital TV, emphasised the switchover date and was able to answer individual questions.
“There was a great response from people, who actively took part in the session to find out information they could share with friends and family,” Melissa said.
“We had a group of children whose parents attend TAFE to learn English. They asked about what equipment they needed and where it could be purchased. They were also very keen to hear about all the new channels they would receive once they convert to digital.”
There was also a Digital Switchover information stall at the event which provided translated information about the switch to digital TV and the available assistance schemes people could access.
Some people who visited the stand expressed concerns over their current situation and asked for clarification about the need to replace their antenna on their roof, or what they should do if they lived in rented accommodation.
“The translation factsheets came in very handy and many people who visited the stand took these home for family and friends to read,” said Melissa.
Translated factsheets are available in 30 languages on the website www.digitalready.gov.au or from the Digital Ready Information Line 1800 20 10 13.
